Boss Teacher - Chapter 37: Player Class Assignments

The essence of the bunny hop lies in the hopping. Zombie hops and bunny hops are ultimately hops, so at first glance, it looks quite convincing. Of course, you should be mentally prepared for their fanged faces beforehand, lest you have a heart attack while watching the performance.

To achieve the most perfect performance, the zombie students diligently wore bunny ear headbands, and Yan Chi couldn't help but gaze at their adorable bunny ears.

The fluffy, pink bunny ears swayed up and down with their movements, looking incredibly lively and cute. Yan Chi watched this adorable bunny dance with complete concentration.

"Teacher Xiao Chi, isn't our class's bunny dance cute?"

A cheerful voice rang out. Yan Chi looked towards the speaker. The man had a thick beard and spoke very loudly, the kind of voice that didn't need a megaphone to lecture.

This was also a homeroom teacher. Yan Chi had seen him before in the meeting room. He smiled and nodded, "Yes, it's very cute."

Upon receiving Yan Chi's approval, the man laughed heartily, giving him a thumbs-up, seemingly admiring his taste.

After this interruption, Yan Chi continued watching the performance on stage. Suddenly, he noticed one of the zombie students accidentally drop his rabbit headband.

Just as he was about to warn him, another student, not noticing the headband, stepped on it. The slight "crack" was drowned out by the loud music, but like a startled rabbit, he leaped high into the air, landing and bumping into his companion.

His companion slumped to the side, bumping into another student, and the chain reaction began. Within seconds, all the zombie students, with their knees unable to bend and reflexes slow, were sprawled on the ground.

The lively music continued to play from the speakers, but the zombie students on stage lay sprawled on the ground, unable to get up.

For a moment, an eerily awkward silence fell over the entire audience.

Yan Chi clearly heard the zombie classmate's homeroom teacher gasp. Thinking about his own students' terribly waltzing, he inexplicably felt a sense of empathy for the teacher.

Thankfully, he had arranged for Xie Tao to help backstage beforehand, so at least he didn't have to worry about them embarrassing themselves on stage.

The players in the back row had identical blank expressions from the moment the zombie bunny dance began.

[My system seems to be malfunctioning. It's telling me that the zombie dancing on stage with bunny ears is an A-level boss.]

[Help! What have I done to deserve seeing an A-level boss dance for me?! Will they find out I watched the show and hunt me down?]

[I didn't laugh. I've never laughed at anyone, not even when I see the zombie Jenga.]

[Everyone step back! Let me applaud!]

“Brother Song, is this some kind of comedy show?” Lu Yuanming, without a care in the world, was as happy as a little fool. “Which genius came up with this show?”

Song Qian’s eyes were also full of smiles. He nudged Lu Yuanming with his elbow, his chin slightly raised. “Look, it’s Teacher Xiao Chi.”

Lu Yuanming’s eyes lit up instantly. He saw Yan Chi in the first row, and next to Yan Chi was the legendary Lin Heng.

Lu Yuanming secretly glanced at the S-rank players sitting next to him. Sure enough, as he expected, their gazes were also fixed on Yan Chi.

“He said he’s not going back, why did you all come?” Xin Xia’s hat brim was pulled low, his voice sullen. “He only has eyes for that fish. He’s probably already forgotten about us. Maybe if we hadn’t come looking for him, he would have forgotten our names…”

Xin Xia’s voice trembled with tears as he spoke, heartbroken over his own words.

"Oh dear, you silly boy, why are you crying again?" The old man was engrossed in the performance when he turned around and saw Xin Xia sobbing again. He handed him two tissues to wipe his tears and went back to watching the show.

Xin Xia pursed his lips, silently shedding tears, then wiped them away himself.

His three companions watched Lin Heng's retreating figure with complicated expressions. The tall, thin, and handsome man asked, "Didn't he say why?"

"He said he wanted a peaceful life." Xin Xia said indignantly, "He's just treating me like a fool! I'm not blind, how could I not see that he's interested in that fish! Damn it, how can he be so love-struck, waaaaah..."

Xin Xia cried like a fan whose idol had been ruined.

The man: "..."

Lu Yuanming, who had been secretly eavesdropping on their conversation, looked like he'd just gotten some gossip. He sidled up to Song Qian, "Wow!"

"Is the fish they're talking about the blue-haired guy next to Teacher Xiao Chi?" Lu Yuanming couldn't see Xi Chang's face, so he kept staring at his back.

Xi Chang seemed to sense the intense gaze and turned around. Lu Yuanming immediately crouched down under the chair, feeling guilty.

Yan Chi also turned around. "What's wrong?"

"It looks like someone's watching me." Xi Chang looked around but didn't find anything amiss, so he simply ignored it and pulled Yan Chi to continue watching the show.

Yan Chi looked suspiciously at the crowd behind him. Suddenly, he caught sight of a familiar figure. His eyes widened slightly. It was... Song Qian?

Song Qian met Yan Chi's gaze. He waved to Yan Chi like an old friend. Yan Chi suppressed his surprise at seeing him; Song Qian was here for this event too, so he smiled and nodded.

Xi Chang asked curiously, "Who is this person?"

"A player I met at Feng Wang's house," Yan Chi said. "He's quite nice."

Xi Chang nodded, glanced at Song Qian a few times, and suddenly noticed the gaze beside him. He immediately bared his teeth threateningly at Lin Heng.

Lin Heng sighed slightly, turned his head, and met Shen Mingsu's gloating gaze.

Shen Mingsu seemed quite eager to see him make a fool of himself.

Time flew by with the students' performances, and in the blink of an eye, it was the last program. Yan Chi couldn't help but tighten his grip on Xi Chang's arm, his round, lustrous amber eyes filled with obvious tension.

Okay, now it was his turn to embarrass himself.

As soft music began, the students from Class One, dressed in formal attire, gracefully emerged from behind the curtain. Yan Chi clearly heard exclamations of surprise behind him, along with a few "So beautiful!" and "So handsome!"

Yan Chi: "..."

Thanks for the compliment, but unfortunately, only his face can withstand the slap. Ahui and Shen Chang Le remained in the center, but despite the gentle and affectionate ballroom dance, they maintained a completely expressionless face throughout, staring blankly at each other with unwavering determination.

Yan Chi held his breath, then looked at Sethia and Tan Mo, who were most prone to making mistakes.

Tan Mo watched Sethia intently. The moment he noticed Sethia getting carried away, he immediately put his arm around Sethia's waist, changed his steps, and spun him around, giving him a light pinch on the waist.

Sethia immediately snapped back to reality, preventing a chaotic chase.

Yan Chi was incredibly grateful to have Tan Mo as a stabilizing force to keep Sethia in check.

"They've improved so much!" Xi Chang, who also worked part-time as a dance teacher and had taught them for a few days, could best see their progress. "But Mingcai's steps are a bit messy, and Feng Wang isn't quite there either..."

His words had barely left his mouth when Feng Wang and Li Huai's group tripped and fell.

Because of their height difference, and because Li Huai's shoe insoles were very high, the sudden movement made them wobble. After a few seconds, they both stumbled and fell to the ground.

Xi Chang, startled, immediately covered her mouth. "Sorry, I jinxed it."

Yan Chi, with a calm expression that suggested he had everything under control, said, "Don't worry, I had a plan."

On stage, Xie Tao appeared furtively, grabbed Feng Wang's foot, and dragged him behind the curtain. Seeing his brother being dragged away, Li Huai hurriedly followed Xie Tao.

In the blink of an eye, only four groups remained on stage.

Yan Chi, somewhat smug, patted the stunned Xi Chang on the shoulder.

Seeing this development, the homeroom teacher of the zombie group gave Yan Chi a thumbs-up again, while looking regretful, "No wonder you're a genius who can get a teaching certificate, Teacher Chi! So clever! I never thought of such a useful method, sigh!"

Yan Chi heard such praise for the first time, "...Thank you."

Soon, Mingcai and Xingluo were also dragged off the field. Seeing that someone next to her was leaving, Lian Deng whispered to Ning Zhu, "I want to leave too."

Ning Zhu glanced at Xie Tao's location and was horrified, "You, you, you—don't go!"

He had finally managed to regain some face with Xie Tao; if he were dragged away by Xie Tao because of a fall, he would lose all his dignity!

“But dancing is so tiring,” Lian Deng sighed. “My little ones are waiting for me to come back and feed them.”

“Don’t go down. How about this, I’ll order three outfits for your three little monsters?” Ning Zhu tried every way to keep Lian Deng there. “Just order from that doll clothes shop outside the school.”

Lian Deng thought for a moment and agreed, “Okay.”

Ning Zhu practically broke out in a cold sweat.

During the final thank-you segment, there were three groups on stage that Yan Chi hadn’t expected at all. Yan Chi had already prepared for Ahui and Shen Chang Le to fight alone until the very last moment, and he was overjoyed.

After listening to the director’s long speech, Yan Chi bought a lot of food to go find his beloved students. Before leaving, he gave Shen Mingsu a wink, and Shen Mingsu got up and followed him.

The sports meet opening ceremony thus came to a perfect end, and the competitions would officially begin this afternoon.

After watching the final performance, Lu Yuanming, looking dazed, grabbed Song Qian's arm, eager for confirmation, "Brother Song, did I see things wrong?"

Otherwise, how could he have seen Feng Wang dancing on stage in a dress?

Song Qian's expression was also somewhat strange, "I don't think so. Xingluo and Ahui were there. That burly girl should be Feng Wang."

Before watching the performance, Song Qian's impression of Feng Wang was that of a majestic and imposing red dragon in the snow, but now he was completely overshadowed by the tutu.

Feng Wang, who was backstage removing his makeup and changing clothes, sneezed several times. Li Huai asked him worriedly, "Brother, are you catching a cold?"

"No." Feng Wang looked around suspiciously, his hand squeezing the water bottle so hard it cracked. "Someone must be talking bad about me behind my back! Ha! Don't let me catch them, or they'll be sorry!"

Yan Chi overheard this and asked quietly, "What are you going to do?"

Faced with Yan Chi's scrutinizing gaze, Feng Wang paused, his mind racing, almost overloaded. "I...didn't I say they'd be sorry? Then of course I'll bring them some fresh fruit."

Yan Chi knew exactly what he was thinking and cautioned, "...No fighting."

Feng Wang lowered his head. "Okay."

The students could dispose of the performance costumes as they pleased. Those who liked them could take them home as souvenirs, and those who didn't could throw them away. Feng Wang and Ning Zhu threw away their dresses immediately, while everyone else chose to keep their clothes.

Sethia held the sparkly dress with a regretful expression. "This dress is so pretty, but the hem is so long, it's inconvenient to walk in."

"Do you like short skirts?" Mingcai suggested upon hearing this. "Want to swap school uniforms with me?"

Girls' school uniforms are all knee-length skirts. Mingcai and Sethia are about the same size, so they instantly agreed, took each other's uniforms, and went into the changing room.

Yan Chi watched Sethia make a dazzling entrance in his short skirt uniform. Sethia was already delicate and cute, with a babyish look. Even with his makeup still on, he didn't look strange or awkward in the outfit.

"Teacher Yan Chi, do I look good?" Sethia excitedly twirled around in front of Yan Chi.

Yan Chi genuinely praised, "Very good-looking."

Sethia smiled, hugging Yan Chi's waist, and then, like a little peacock showing off its beautiful tail feathers, pulled each classmate aside to ask if he looked good.

“Sethia.” Xingluo held up a blonde wig. “You’re missing this.”

Sethia's eyes lit up. He nodded and obediently stood in front of Xingluo. Xingluo put the wig on him, and cute twin tails swayed on either side of his ears as he shook his head.

“Now put on some lipstick.” Xingluo suddenly became interested in dressing up Sethia. He carefully selected a lipstick and applied it to Sethia, then added blush.

Sethia closed his eyes, letting Xingluo fuss over his face.

But why was Xingluo doing this all of a sudden? Yan Chi looked at the busy Xingluo suspiciously. Was he going to cause trouble again?

“Alright!” Xingluo finished, stepped aside, and let everyone see Sethia's current appearance—twin tails, a soft, cute face, and big, bright eyes—a definite blonde sweetheart.

Sethia looked in the mirror, cupped his face, and smiled broadly. "Wow, I'm so pretty!"

Yan Chi chuckled at his comment. "Yeah, you are pretty."

"You like this type?" Shen Mingsu rested his chin on Yan Chi's shoulder, wrapped his arms around his waist, and pressed himself close to him, his expression slightly sour, like he'd just had a sour laugh.

Yan Chi was already adept at handling this situation. Seeing that everyone's attention was drawn to Sethia, he quickly kissed Shen Mingsu on the cheek. "Are you done?"

Shen Mingsu was instantly satisfied. "All done."

Seeing this, Xie Tao looked away, picked up a bottle of makeup remover, applied it to a cotton pad, grabbed Ning Zhu, and started rubbing his face. After removing his makeup, he decisively pushed him away and grabbed Lian Deng to perform a streamlined makeup removal process.

Meanwhile, Mingcai approached Sethia, poking his cheek and calling to Ahui and Ding Yang, "Come poke it, it's so soft!"

Sethia immediately covered his face, hiding behind Yan Chi and tugging at his clothes. "Teacher Xiao Chi, protect me!"

But Teacher Xiao Chi couldn't resist pinching his cheek too. Sethia had no choice but to run to Tan Mo for protection, who shielded him reliably, protecting his face.

Yan Chi smiled and took Shen Mingsu's hand. "You guys play, we're leaving now."

At midday, the sun was shining brightly. As Yan Chi walked out of the auditorium, he saw Xi Chang running towards him, looking somewhat annoyed.

"What's wrong?"

"Lin Heng's teammates are here again." Xi Chang held a blade of grass in his hand, swinging it around haphazardly. "I hate them so much."

Yan Chi glanced at Lin Heng's group. Besides Xin Xia, he was indeed accompanied by three more unfamiliar players. They were talking about something and kept glancing in Xi Chang's direction.

Yan Chi: "Then come back with us first."

Xi Chang nodded and left with Yan Chi and Shen Mingsu.

Lin Heng, who had been watching Xi Chang, turned his gaze to Xin Xia and the other three. Seeing their hesitation, he said, "Just say what you have to say."

The burly, good-natured man scratched his head. "Boss, can you tell us the truth? Did you really stay because of that mermaid named Xi Chang? Do you like him?"

"I met him after I stayed," Lin Heng said ambiguously, not directly stating whether he liked Xi Chang or not.

Avoiding the question meant something was wrong. Xin Xia sniffed, tears welling up again. "I can tell you clearly like him, but he doesn't seem to like you!"

Lin Heng glanced at him and finally spoke, "...Yeah, he doesn't like me."

Xin Xia was stunned for a moment. This time, he thought, "My boss is so handsome! Why doesn't that mermaid like him?"

Unconsciously, he blurted out his true feelings.

Lin Heng's face showed a rare hint of worry. "He...is a bit racist."

Xin Xia: "...Huh?"

Lin Heng: "He discriminates against me because I'm human."

The four teammates: "..."

This is beyond ridiculous; this is genuine racism.

"You don't need to try to persuade me. I won't leave," Lin Heng said to his former teammates. "If you want to stay here, I can help you; if you want to leave and continue your player life, I'll help you leave Yunzhou safely."

"Boss, then let us stay." The tall, thin man smiled. His name was Rong Wenshi, an old friend who had always been by Lin Heng's side. "We also want to see what's so good about the school that will let you stay."

"Whatever."

Lin Heng turned and left after saying this.

Xin Xia was still indignant and completely baffled. "Why? What's so great about that mermaid? He's even a guy..."

Rong Wenshi straightened his baseball cap. "As long as the boss likes it. Speaking of which, haven't you had a crush on anyone all these years?"

Xin Xia replied decisively, "No."

"Then tell me what type you like? I'll help you keep an eye out."

"Anyway, I definitely don't like guys." Xin Xia had been unknowingly led astray by Rong Wenshi, his little mouth chattering, "I like cute girls, long hair, pigtails..."

Xin Xia walked on, then suddenly stopped, staring blankly to the side.

Rong Wenshi followed his gaze and saw a little blonde girl with a bright blue complexion skipping and chatting with her companion. She was incredibly cute, and most importantly, she had pigtails!

Rong Wenshi glanced at Xin Xia; sure enough, the kid was mesmerized.

This group was none other than Sethia and his friends, who had just walked out of the auditorium.

Xingluo said with interest, "Sethia, there's a player watching you over there."

Srthia looked at Xin Xia, whose face instantly flushed red. He shyly reached out to greet him.

"It's a player." Sethia only had one thought about players, looking Xin Xia up and down. "This one's too skinny, definitely not tasty."

There was a distance between them, and Xin Xia couldn't hear what Sethia was saying. He could only see Sethia glance at him before looking away with uninterested expression.

Did she not like him? Xin Xia felt a little disappointed.

As the two groups passed each other, Xin Xia heard a boy whisper, "You'll be divided into classes this afternoon. Come to our first-year class one."

Xin Xia stared blankly as they walked away.

A little after 1 p.m., Teacher Youyou, who was in charge of managing the players, gathered all the players together and went to a classroom in Building One to wait for the homeroom teachers to arrive.

Yan Chi, accompanied by Shen Chang Le, didn't go directly into the classroom but observed the group of players from outside the window.

"Uncle, which players are you planning to recruit?" Shen Chang Le now privately calls Yan Chi "Uncle."

Yan Chi initially felt a little awkward, but now he's completely accepted it and takes it in stride.

"Xin Xia, whom Teacher Lin recommended, is going to be accepted." Yan Chi looks at the group of players in the classroom. "Xie Tao and Ding Yang will also be in our class, and Lu Yuanming and Song Qian… let's ask them if they want to come."

Shen Chang Le noted down these names and followed Yan Chi into the classroom.

Yan Chi told Teacher Youyou about the players he liked, and Teacher Youyou selected them and presented them to Yan Chi.

Upon seeing Yan Chi, Lu Yuanming excitedly exclaimed, "Teacher Chi! I knew you would remember us!"

Yan Chi remembered him helping Feng Wang and the others cheat, nodding and joking, "After all, your performance was truly unforgettable."

Lu Yuanming awkwardly touched his nose and chuckled. Song Qian also greeted Yan Chi. It was obvious from their behavior that they would be coming to Yan Chi's class.

Xin Xia looked at Yan Chi with complicated emotions. Several homeroom teachers had arrived before him, most of them looking fierce and contemptuous towards the players.

Yan Chi was different. Therefore, after his appearance, the players all held hope; if they could go to his class, the subsequent tasks would be much easier.

Xin Xia hadn't expected Yan Chi to choose him. Wasn't he good friends with Xi Chang? Shouldn't he dislike him like Xi Chang did?

The old man patted Xin Xia on the shoulder. "This teacher is a good kid. You'll be set for life with him."

Xin Xia looked up. "What about you?"

They had no idea what would happen next, or whether it would be safe to go to the classroom. They could only try to choose a friendly homeroom teacher.

The old man smiled. "I'll definitely have a place. Don't worry."

Rong Wenshi and the others reassured Xin Xia to leave with Yan Chi. Xin Xia glanced at them and walked to Yan Chi's side.

"You only need three players?" Teacher Youyou asked hesitantly. "But the director said each class needs at least five players."

Yan Chi: "I have two more players, Xie Tao and Ding Yang. That makes five."

Teacher Youyou nodded and let Yan Chi leave with the others.

Walking down the school corridor, Xin Xia occasionally heard laughter from the classrooms. Looking at the classroom numbers on the doors, his heart pounded faster.

Xin Xia: "Which class are you in?"

Shen Chang Le: "First grade, class one."

Xin Xia's tone became noticeably excited, and he asked somewhat awkwardly, "...What's the name of that blonde girl in your class with pigtails?"

"A blonde girl?"

Yan Chi was taken aback by his description. How come he didn't know there was a blonde girl in their class?

Shen Chang Le's expression became subtle upon learning the truth.
